Description:

Apart from a number of races and small waves near the finish alongside the Caravan Park and further upstream at an island after Tumut Racecourse, the river is very fast flowing flatwater incessantly winding its way through farms and poplar plantations. Some of the tighter bends require quick manoeuvring to avoid the willows, and the occasional strong swirls need to be negotiated with care. Follow the main channel in the few places where the river branches around tree islands, particularly a few km downstream of the junction with the Goobarragandra (this river junction occurs immediately after the Tumut Plains Road bridge) as the side channels can be choked with willows.
