Description:

The last 20km of this section is actually on the Murrumbidgee River. The stage down to the Murrumbidgee junction is similar to the previous section except that the river widens, the willows are less profuse and the meanders broaden and become less numerous. Downstream of Brungle Bridge the countryside is hillier, although the immediate surrounds are still flat floodplains. Once on the wider Murrumbidgee the swift pace of the river somewhat moderates and the riverbanks become noticeably steeper. In this section there are virtually no races, the only notable difficulty being the large swirl near trees in the river not far from Gundagai (see the Murrumbidgee, Section 19 - Jugiong to Gundagai). Care is needed in avoiding the willows along the banks and any snags appearing in the river. It is important to follow the main current where the river branches as the side channels are generally uncanoeable. Just downstream of Brungle Bridge where the main channel swings to the left, it appears that the right channel may be canoeable due to the large amount of water flowing into this channel. However it contains many snags and should be avoided. From the Murrumbidgee junction is about a half-day's paddle to Gundagai.
