Description:

This section is characterised by pools and many races, some of which are long and wide. In the second half of the trip the pools lengthen and sandy shoals are prevalent. Some of the races downstream of Yalwal Creek have tree obstacles. The bluffs of the Shoalhaven Gorge continue for the first 8km and gradually give way to more open, heavily wooded hilly country. Within half a kilometre of the dam, there is a tricky grade 2 chute around the side of a rock, which can easily lead to a capsize. The only other rapids as such are grade 2 races at Coolendel Nature Reserve (Map Ref. 6504 j 0)
