Description:

Belubula river ,Bakers Shaft reserve -Canowindra is a difficult section to obtain access to as the river runs some distance from public roads and through private property. The river is very fast with adaquate water discharged from the Carcoar Dam or local rainfall. The Belubula drops 586 mtrs from the Carcoar dam to The Lachlan river. The river runs through steep country and is very narrow.   3.5km below Bakers Shaft reserve is the old weir build many years ago to provide water for the hydro electric generators for the original  Junction Reef gold mine. The current gold mine is currantly off lmits to the visitor now,  2016.  From the weir (Approx .5km the river drops over falls and steep rapids eventually passing through the area know as the needles (33° 34' 48" S 148° 50' 53.2" E) (Approx  35ks) and cranky rock, where a new 90000Ml dam is proposed. This area has a significant cave system, Cliefden caves.  Travel on this section would take some organising obtaining access through the private properties for any support vehicles. The section is far removed from any outside assistance with comms at a minimium.  The differance between good water and excessive water would be minimial. Be awear of the isolation and steepness of the country. Be organised.  No facilities outside Cowra, Canowindra , Blayney or Carcoar.  The river before Canowindra flows through much more gentle farming country but still can be fast.   First exit point in Canowindra is the Cherry tree fall Bridge 8 ks above John grant bridge in Canowindra.  Investigation and organisation can find shorter sections.
