Access Point Description:

Butler's Falls is a good put-in/pull-out spot, with good access to the river, though the rest of the reserve is mostly knee-high weeds and not really the best picnic spot. Drive to the end of the dirt road to get to the main put-in spot, which is at the top of the falls (there is also a small carpark on the right on your way in - walking to the river from here will take you to the bottom of the falls, where there is a nice pool). The "falls" - as in any "falls" on the Macquarie River - are not really falls, but just a slight increase in downward gradient in the river, and is a shallow section, so the water moves faster. There have been drownings in the river at this reserve due to weed entanglement and currents. There is phone reception. Toilets (not the nicest) are located 100m up the hill from the main launch area.
It is 13 river kms from here to Dubbo (with a weir to portage).
