It is at the junction of the Nepean River and Grose Rivers were the Hawkesbury River starts and is on the westerns side of the river. With fresh water flowiing out of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area in the Grose River. The water level is tidal and so the level goes up and down with the tides. The river can be fast flowing after rain events.
