Burnt flat is inside the Schedule 2 Special areas and so you must exit the river on a formed road and stay on the formed road until you get out of the special areas. It is also private property at Burnt flat and down to the W4 Firetrail and so you should ask permission to walk to the road or stay on the crown road reserve shown on the NSW globe KML project. there is a locked gate at the end of Wanganderry road and there is a 15km walk from the river on a 4WD track to the locked gate.
The river is a grade 2 river with a couple of raipd that are Grade 2+. the trip is a almost a wilderness trip except that there is private property on both sides of the river for the first 9 kilometers and then after Tomat Creek there is Blue Mountains National Park on river left. There are many remote camps site on river left after the first 6km. some of the landowner hunt on their properties so you need to be weary when you hear gun shots and let the landowners know you are on the river. The rapids are either gravel races and series of rock bars with ponds in between. the river does narrow after into tree lined races in many places.
