Description:

Put in point is off the bank over the road from the Eltham Hotel and between the railway bridge & the road bridge. There is some vegetation on the bank. Vehicles can be left on the grass area adjacent to the put in point. The distance to the Boatharbour road bridge is approx. 22 km. An exit here if required is on the left immediately before the bridge. The remaining distance to Lismore is approx. 12 km. An overall time of 4 to 5 hours to Lismore is Best time to tour is just after heavy rain while the river is still up. As the river is shallow in places, the extra depth helps clear the shallow sections as well as giving an increase in speed from the current flow.  There is a small weir about 3 km from the start that will require a portage to avoid hull damage. The remainder of the section to the Boatharbour Bridge is very pleasant and pretty as it meanders through farmland. There are plenty of get out points to stretch you legs and the banks are very clean. You will know you are getting close to Bexhill as you pass under the “Rocky Creek Dam to Lismore “ water pipe. The river soon gets very close to the road and the bridge is only a short distance away. The second section from the Boatharbour Road Bridge and Coopers Creek junction widens considerably and the effect of the current slows. The farmland opens out a little and Woodlawn College is approx. halfway at 6 km.The paddle finishes at the FNCCC clubhouse.
