Description:
Access at the start involves a walk for aboth 1.5 kilometers from the gate on the road into Russel Street Reserve. but this access point allows you to avoid the maze of islands and gravel races between Penrith and Russle Street although there is still three gravel races between russel street and shaws farm. this section is mainly flat water starting near a reseidential area and then running past national park on the western bank and the Penrith Lakes precinct on the eastern bank. There is a pair of Sea Eagls that nest in the area and can be sen hunting water fowl and fish most days.

Hi I recently paddled from Russell St, Emu Plains to Devlin St, Castlereagh
The water levels were great definitely grade 1-2. With Jackson’s lane the only thing we portaged. I was with a novice paddler and he wasn’t confident. We only looked the main western path; it was a straight line with medium to large waves. The east path looked smaller maybe easier but with 2-3 long rapids with some good steering required.
The long straight past ADI site was slow in the head wind.
We took the eastern bend around Shaw’s Island, which was great, 3-4 rapids at grade 1-2 with manageable hazards and good pull out to scope (private property on bank). Did not scope the western side, it sounded like it was churning and the east looked good.
4hrs car to car with a few capsizes and not much playing.
Think it would be good to mark the current water level on 15/09/2016 as good to high. Suitable for beginner to intermediate paddlers. Might have been a bit much for a novice first time whitewater paddler. Hope this data is of some use.
