Description:
The Old Merlya Road/ Timelong Trail is a fascinating piece of History. In 1818 Charles Throsby was led into Kangaroo Valley from the Southern Highlands by an Aboriginal man known as 'Timelong'. In 1896 a road was constructed on this route. Once Tallowa Dam was built in 1976 this original route towards the coast was flooded for ever.
There are amazing stone retaining walls still visible dissapearing under Yarrunga Creek and coming out on the other side. It is awe inspiring to imagine the horses and carriages that would have taken this road in the past.
You could appraoch this location from Beehive point or Bendeela rather than tallowa Dam if prefered.
