Brocks Track to Wrens Flat
This section starts at Brocks Track bridge. This section has three distinct stages. It starts as a mountain stream, narrow and cold. After a couple of kilometres the river enters a fern gorge and there are several good rapids (grade 3). After the short gorge the gradient reduces and the river flattens. There are several small rapids in this section and there are often logs across the river which can be hazzardous. There are some huts along this section and a 4 wheel drive track is approximately 1 kilometre away on river left. The river then turns from south to south west and the gradient increases. There are several easy rapids along this section. The level of the rapids start to increase and the river turns south again. The main gorge is then reached. The gorge is narrow with very steep sides. Once enterred it would be difficult to walk out. The gorge contains the biggest rapids on this section. In highwater these rapids would join up and would be intimidating. The final drop leads into a pool where boats and paddles can be recovered. From the end of the gorge it is a short paddle to the take out point at Wrens Flat.
This is a long section and is very remote. An early start is recommended and paddlers should be aware that the largest rapids are at the end of the day when people can be tired.
