Description:

This section starts a short distance below the Thomson River spillway.   The river is narrow and is consists of easy grade 2 rapids.   The only rapid of note is Cascades, which is a grade 2+ rapid approximately 5 k from the start.   The daily release from the reservoir is insufficent for this section to the paddled so it is only during environmental releases that it is paddleable.   Due to the low water levels the river is now choked with logs.   Local rainfall will raise the Aberfeldy River which joins the Thomson approximately 5 k before the take out at Walhalla Road Bridge.   The gauge is at Coopers Creek which is downstream of the Aberfeldy so does not give a true indication of the water level in this section.
