Lake Conjola to Fishermans Paradise
Jon Mortimer manages the Eurobodalla Kayakers website and email list. Eurobodalla Kayakers is not a club. It is simply a facility for sharing information about some kayaking activities in the district, for kayakers who want to know when and where other paddlers might be found on the water. Further information, including a calendar of paddles, is available on the website (access via the link below) or via the email eurobodallakayakers[at]gmail.com

A little planning will make for a better day out on this popular waterway. A launch into the latter hours of the flood tide will provide some assistance from the tidal current and ensure that there is plenty of water under the boat in the shallow sections of this lake. Avoid the peak flow of the ebb tide or you might find yourself heading in the direction of New Zealand. Take a map along. While the main channels are deep, there are quite a few shallow areas. Navigation markers are plentiful but a map will help avoid these areas. Boating and fishing are popular here, particularly in holiday times, and it can be safer sometimes to paddle just outside the marked channels. This paddle route covers a lot and can be shortened to suit the time available. Starting at the Conjola Beach Boat ramp, there are three possible stops. Adder Bay is probably the most kayak friendly. Fishermans Paradise has a kayak unfriendly concrete boat ramp but does have more facilities, with barbecues, toilets and waste bins. Wash your gear well after this paddle. This is one of a number of waterways infested with the macroalga Caulerpa Taxifolia, a popular aquarium plant but a terrible weed.
