A relatively easy section of the river that has a tricky portage around a big boulder choke.
The trip starts off pretty mellow but then picks up at about the halfway mark where a 200m steeply dropping, grade IV boulder choke is encountered. Scouting and portaging this section can be challenging as the banks are overgrown and the middle of the river is filled with boulders. Most parties end up running some of the rapid and portaging other bits down the rocks in the centre. After the boulder choke there are several fun, bouldery, tree-lined grade II+/III- rapids.

Gauge and level:There is a manual gauge on the downstream side of the Tyringham bridge. The minimum level on this gauge is approximately 0.45m. As a rough guide the Nymboida@Nymboida gauge would be around 2m.
Put-in:Bridge where Tyringham Road crosses the river, approximately 20km northwest of Dorrigo.
Take-out:Bridge where Moonpar Road crosses the river.
Shuttle:Easy (2WD). 15 minutes each way via Tyringham Road and Moonpar Road.
