Description:

The easiest section of the Nymboida and a good introduction to river trips.
The first 5km of this trip can be paddled as a separate section by taking out at the Travelling Stock Reserve located off the small road (Sutton Street) that goes down to the river between the houses approximately 3km north of the bridge. Be sure to keep the gate closed, even whilst you are in picking up boats and paddlers. Shortly after this, there is a long pool formed by a dangerous weir that should be portaged on river-left. Midway along the weir pool you will see the remnants of the inlet to the derelict Nymboida Power Station that was damaged by a flood in 2013. The water from the power station discharged down Goolang Creek creating one of the best and most accessible kayaking courses in Australia before flowing into the Orara River via Blaxland Creek.
This section of river consists of a series of long pools separated by occasional grade I and II rapids and a couple of rapids that may approach grade III at higher flows. There are a few places on this section where care must be taken to avoid overhanging trees.
