The steepest section of the Little Murray River that is distinctive for its clean, narrow drops, canyon-style paddling and beautiful Antarctic Beech forest. The run requires private property access.
The rapids in this section are mostly of grade III to IV standard with several being more difficult and three huge waterfalls that require portaging. Care must be taken on the lead up to the first large waterfall which is early in the trip. A distinctive, guttery-style grade III rapid leads to a small eddy on river-left at the top of the falls. Either catch this crucial eddy and make the difficult portage over the waterfall using ropes or take the high portage on the right above the lead-up rapid. This option is longer but much safer. An old flying fox cable across the river may also serve as an indicator of the approach to this waterfall. There are several other large and spectacular waterfalls requiring portage along this trip, however their approaches are more obvious. The end of the trip is marked by an impressive, chasm-waterfall below a man-made weir. The walk-out is made more difficult if it is raining due to having to carry several kilograms of leeches on each foot.
The section from Waterfall Way to Fernbrook Loop Road has also been paddled but was reported by the first descensionists to be of low quality due to multiple, difficult portages around big waterfalls onto rocks in a canyon.
