The Canoeing Guide to NSW Rivers
The Nepean River becomes the Hawkesbury River at Yarramundi. From Devlin's Lane at Castlereagh, off Castlereagh Road, to the low-level bridge at Yarramundi on Springwood Road is 1-2 hours' paddling time. From Yarramundi Bridge to Windsor takes 4-6 hours' paddling time. The river is predominantly flat-water in this section and slow flowing unless the river is up, which is the case if good rain has been falling or water has been released from Warragamba Dam. Intermediate access is available at Richmond Bridge, 4km downstream from Yarramundi Bridge. Power boats and water skiers are a hazard between Richmond and Windsor Bridges. The car shuttle distances between Castlereagh, Yarramundi, Richmond and Windsor are relatively short. See road maps of the area.
