Description:

Generally the river is wide and sluggish with long deep pools which are occasionally broken by rocky races. The rural outlook is pleasant and mostly cleared with low gravel banks. The stretch from Jackadgery to approximately 3km downstream contains two twisty grade 2- 3 rapids which require a gauge level of at least 1.0m to make them scrape-free. Overhanging trees in the river should be watched. Mulligans Bluff Rapid 14km from the put-in point requires inspection before shooting. Here, the entire river narrows through a rock gutter whose exit is made tricky by a large central rock. The rapid is grade 3 with a level of 0.9m. However, a larger volume will increase the difficulty due to pressure waves and added current strength. The rapid is sometimes referred to as Cangai Falls and can easily be portaged on the right bank. The section may be paddled as a day trip with camping possible at Cangai Bridge.
