Description:

The first 8km of river is through very scenic gorge country. Rapids are numerous with a variety of small drops, chutes and races over rounded granite shelves and boulders of a pronounced pink colour. This stage contains six grade 3 rapids, the last one being just past Myrtle Creek (7.5km). These are all clean with an obvious path, however turbulence at the end of some can be tricky. The Wadbilliga Hole Creek is passed after 10.5km and from 13km the countryside changes to lower ridges and wider banks. While the standard of rapids has dropped to grade 2, the river is still interesting with a tranquil timbered setting and clear water. The river region before Belowra Farm (15km) is isolated with no known road access. Camping in the gorge is idyllic but sites are at a premium. Just before the farm, a fallen tree provides the river's only portage. The river now follows the road to Belimbla Creek. A grade 3 rapid is located approximately 4km down from Belowra Farm, upstream of the Wadbilliga River junction (21 km).
