Description:

The river is about 50m wide with high banks most of th way. Thre are a number of ski parks and so between October and April there a alot of ski and wake boats on the river so you should keep close to one of the banks. The area also have orchids, market gardens and turf farms along the river but there is increaed urbanisation along the river with 5 acre properties and landowners clearing  and rockwalling the banks to get a view of the river. The end of the trip is in Cattai National Park where you can camp and there are toilets, covered picnic tables. The trip can be extended by kayaking down to Sackville or up Cattai creek if you prefer to get away from the power boats. The river is tidal in this section with the Windsor high tide 5hr 15 minutes behind Fort Denison and the low tide 5 hrs 50 min behind. You can get the predicted high and low tide times from NSW Maritime booklet http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/docs/Tide_Tables.pdf this booklet also shows you the lag behind Fort Denison for a number of locations in NSW or by looking at the Fort Denison location on the BOM web site http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/tides/
