Jon Mortimer manages the Eurobodalla Kayakers website and email list. Eurobodalla Kayakers is not a club. It is simply a facility for sharing information about some kayaking activities in the district, for kayakers who want to know when and where other paddlers might be found on the water. Further information, including a calendar of paddles, is available on the website (access via the link below) or via the email eurobodallakayakers[at]gmail.com

Description:

Launch from Korners Park on the north east side of Batemans Bay Bridge and paddle on the north side of the Bay for 2.8km before turning north into Cullendulla Creek. Paddle up the Creek and see the Cullendulla Nature Reserve boardwalk raised above the mangroves on the left. Time permitting this is worth a stop to take a short walk. There are interpretive signs about the aboriginal history of the area. Further up the Creek there are remnants of a timber railway on the left bank. The railway was used to cart timber from a mill to be loaded onto coastal shipping. Travel as far up the creek as water depth permits and retrace your course for the return journey. This paddle is best done near the top of the tide as the Creek can be quite shallow at low tide. Much of the open water on this paddle can be avoided by launching from the protected beach at Surfside. The car park there off Myamba Parade provides direct access to Surfside Beach. There is also a short path north to Cullendulla Beach allowing direct access to the Creek if conditions on the Bay are rough. This also provides a useful plan B if you find conditions have unexpectedly deteriorated when leaving Cullendulla Creek. The walk back to Korners Park is not too unpleasant and provides a number of opportunities to look out over the Bay and satisfy yourself that you made the sensible decision to walk. Visit www.eurobodallakayakers.com to see when local paddlers will be on the water here. The Eurobodalla Kayaking and Canoeing Brochure provides a description of this and sixteen other paddles in this part of the world. It is available from visitor centres, or by calling 1800 802 528, or directly by clicking on the link.
