Description

On the western side of Yarrunga Creek this small campsite is simply a flat portion of the Old Meryla Road/ Timelong Trail where it emerges from out of the water. The road was built by hand in 1896 as the original route between Kangaroo Valley and the Southern Highlands. Timelong was an Indigenous elder who assisted Charles Throsby in exploring the area in 1818 by folllowing a trail he knew. When Tallowa Dam was constucted in 1976 the road was flooded. This campsite is predominantly pebbles and dirt with an abundance of ants! though a small patch of sloped grass near the waters edge will suit a tent. The water level of the dam can vary from day to day so do not camp too close to the edge.
Birds of interest which can be heard in this area include White Throated Tree Creepers, Boo Book Owls and Barking Owls.
