Description

Making a good vantage point for surfers surveying the surrounding beach area for waves, these cliffs tell some of the geological history of the area. Formed in a shallow marine environment 50 million years ago when Australia and Antarctica were breaking apart, the sediments that form the cliffs were deposited along with the fossilized remains of marine animals living in the shallow sea that formed between the two landmasses.
A large eddy forms on the outgoing tide close to the mouth and may be used for practicing white-water technique.
Always check the wind and tide forecast prior to departure and for the anticipated duration of your journey. Avoid being on the water prior to and during the passage of a cold front as it usually signals increasing wind velocity and a drop in temperature.
