Description

Abandoned in the Ships Graveyard in October 1910, this three masted barque was built by John Brown and Co at their shipyard in Kircaldy, Scotland in 1857. It is reputed to be the first iron-hulled vessel to be abandoned in the Graveyard.
Measuring 141.5 feet (43.1m) in length, the Sunbeam's bow faces out into the North Arm. A boiler of unknown origin is lying close to the starboard bow. (see photo below)
By 1886 the Sunbeam had been operating on long voyages between England and its colonies, was now converted to a general purpose hulk to be used within the Port of Adelaide.
