Mainly paddle open (canadian) canoes.
A roadside rest stop next to the Preston River that is accessed from the southbound lane of Robertson drive. River access is a short walk away, All wheel drive/4WD vehicles can get considerably closer to the river. If the river is not flowing then the banks are quite steep (due to excavation) and make egress difficult.
A good final pick up point if you don't want to paddle in the more open (wind prone, tidal, sand bar) sections of the river or attempt to get through to the river mouth. However a less public/busy access point is only 5-10 minutes paddle downstream at Estuary Drive and further access will be possible (although I haven't checked) past the inner harbour security kiosk (generally open to public access) on Leschenaul drive or if you go through at high tide you should be able to go all the way through into the Leschenault Estuary which opens up your options considerably (including paddle across to the mouth of- and then up- the Collie River).
