Access to the gorge is difficult and kayaks must be dragged or carried about 3km to the river. The start is reached via the Armidale-Kempsey Road. Near Jeogla (Map Ref. 151173 Jeogla or Carrai) there is a dingo fence and grid across the road. Just west of the grid is a turn-off (south) onto Williams Road. About 200m past the fourth gate along this road, a rough track diverges to the left and this is followed until no further vehicular progress is possible. From here it is necessary to drag boats along the track for about 1.5km until another track heads off to the left near an old log dump (Map Ref. 158120 Jeogla or Carrai). Follow this track until it ends at the top of the ridge. This ridge should be followed down to the river at Map Ref. 1871127 Jeogla or Carrai. It takes about 3 hours to reach the river from the cars.
