Description:

This is one of the best paddling sections in Victoria.   There are lots of great rapids, few flat sections and an easy shuttle.   The entry is at a pool immediately below the Lake William Hovell spillway.   There is a small power station here and when it is operating the river level rises.   After a warm up in the pool it is into the first rapid which is a bouncy grade 3.   After a short 750 metres paddle the weir is reached.   The Lake William Hovell gauge is here.   The weir can be paddled however it can be hazardous in high or very low conditions.   It is easy to portage the weir on river left.   A gated management track provides access to this point.   From here it is all fun with lots of rapids, ranging from grade 2+ to 3.   Once farmland is reached on river left it is not far to the exit point.   The exit point is a basic camping spot.   A small creek flows into the river on river left.   The eddys are small at the exit point and the river is still flowing swiftly so paddlers should allow others to get out before paddling down to the exit point.   There are a number of places below the exit point where those who miss the spot can still get out.
