Hawthorn Lane to Ashwood Avenue
This section has three distinct parts. The first part is a narrow mountain stream with few eddys and fast water. There are several fun grade 2+ rapids but also lots of bushes which can be hazardous. As the river reaches Bright the gradient reduces. A rocky weir is encounted in the centre of town. There is a Canyon walking track along the full length of the section on river left and several pedestrian bridges cross the river. Centenary Park is on river left. There is a fun surfing wave in this middle section. The gauge is on river left and not far after the gauge the gradient increases and the river enters a narrow gorge. There are some fun rapids, including another good surfing wave, in this third section. Not far after the gorge ends the exit point is reaches, immediately before the old Railway Bridge. Willows can be a hazard on this river.
This section can be combined with a paddle on the Buckland River to make a good day's paddling, including a stop at the bakery for lunch.
