Description:

The most well-known and popular section of the Nymboida River due to the commercial rafting operations, great rapids and relatively straightforward shuttle.
This drop-pool section consists mostly of fun, technical grade II-III rapids and pools interspersed with several grade III+/IV rapids that can be easily scouted/portaged. Most experienced whitewater paddlers could pick their way down this section with a reasonable amount of common sense and caution. All the bigger rapids should be obvious but there are two areas where extra caution may be required. The first is Malley’s Gorge (approximately 2km below Platy) which transforms from a mellow grade I gorge at low water to a nasty grade V+ drop with an extremely dangerous recirculating eddy at high water. The other is the Devil's Cauldron (approximately 5km below Platy) which has a Grade VI cauldron on river-right. It can be easily portaged through the trees on the left when unsuitable to run via other channels.
