Bielsdown River
This is a fantastic river and has to rate as one of the best steep creeks in the region. It begins serenely enough with several kilometres of flat water and grade one races, many through trees and branches, before reaching the first of many steep and runnable drops. None of the rapids are particularly long and most end in clean pools. Some of the drops are in the 4-6metre range and are a blast! There is one 15m waterfall about 2/3 of the way down the Bielsdown that has not been run and is an almost definite portage. You come around the corner on a little grade 2 and see the world disappear over a narrow horizonline between two rocks - portage high on the right and be ready to rope your boats down the slippery slope on the other side. Upon leaving the Bielsdown you have 6 of the best kilometres of the Nymboida ahead of you down to Platypus Flat. This is a long day, especially if it is your first time on the river or if you like taking photos of sweet drops - get on the river early.
